Brunel University

Located in Uxbridge, West London, Brunel University London is a large public research university that provides a unique single campus environment that promotes academic, social and residential life. Named after the great Victorian engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the university continues to place strong emphasis on technical education, innovation and working closely with industry. The university has also been voted highly for its degree of diversity – with one of the most diverse academic communities and “International Outlook” in the world and consistently ranking amongst top global institutions in terms of attracting internationally mobile academic/scholars from over 140 different countries.

The history of the university is rooted in several predecessor institutions, primarily the Borough Road College, established in 1798; however, Brunel’s identity as a university only began in 1928 with the opening of the Acton Technical College (now Uxbridge Campus) as an act of industry. In 1957, the advanced technology division of the college was changed to Brunel College and it received a Royal Charter, providing university status on 9th June 1966. Throughout much of the late 20th Century, the university underwent several mergers, including acquiring several colleges, including West London Institute of Higher Education, prior to concentrating all operations to current (Uxbridge Site) campus via a major 10-year master plan to modernise the campus into the high-tech base it now represents.
