Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University

Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University, also known as Azerbaijan State University of Education, is one of the oldest and largest institutions of higher education in Azerbaijan.

It all began in 1921, amidst the nascent years of the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic. On August 26th, a decree signed by the Chairman of the Council of People's Commissars, Nariman Narimanov, officially established the "First Azerbaijan Men's State Pedagogical Institute." This marked a pivotal moment, laying the foundation for what would become a cornerstone of Azerbaijani academia.

The institute's early years were marked by immense growth and transformation. With just 6 students and 8 teachers, it embarked on its journey in a modest building on Baku's Istiglal Street. Despite the limited resources, the institute's dedication to excellence shone through. Within three years, it had expanded its curriculum to a 4-year program, welcoming 142 students from Azerbaijan and neighboring countries like Georgia, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan.

Over the decades, the institute underwent numerous name changes, reflecting the evolving political landscape of Azerbaijan. In 1937, it became the "Azerbaijan State Pedagogical Institute named after V.I. Lenin," and later in 1991, it received its current name - Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University.

Beyond its academic pursuits, ASPU has nurtured a vibrant cultural and social environment. Its campus pulsates with the energy of student activities, from the melodious tunes of the university's symphony orchestra and choir to the spirited competitions held at the state-of-the-art sports complex. As Azerbaijan strides towards progress, ASPU remains at the forefront of educational development. It actively collaborates with universities across the globe, forging partnerships that promote academic exchange and cultural understanding. The university's membership in prestigious organizations like the European Association of Universities (EUA) and the International Association of Universities (IAU) testifies to its commitment to internationalization and excellence.
