Francisk Skorina Gomel State University (Russian: Гомельский государственный университет имени Франциска Скорины; Belarusian: Гомельскі дзяржаўны ўніверсітэт імя Францыска Скарыны, romanized: Homielski dziaržaŭny ŭniversitet imia Francyska Skaryny) is a medium-sized university situated in Gomel, Belarus.

The history of Francisk Skorina Gomel State University can be traced back to 1930, when it was founded as Gomel Pedagogical Institute. The institute was established to train teachers for the growing number of schools in the region.

In the early years, the institute offered a two-year program in education. However, in 1934, the program was extended to four years. The institute also began to offer new programs in other fields, such as history, geography, and foreign languages.

During World War II, the institute was closed down. However, it reopened in 1944, after the liberation of Gomel from the Nazis. In the postwar years, the institute continued to grow and develop. New programs were added, and the number of students increased.

In 1969, the institute was renamed Gomel State University. This reflected the university's growing status and prestige. The university now offered a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in a variety of fields.

In 1990, the university was named after Francisk Skorina, a Belarusian humanist scholar, printer, and translator. Skorina is considered to be the father of Belarusian literature.

In recent years, Gomel State University has continued to develop and expand. The university has established a number of new programs and research centers. It has also strengthened its international partnerships.
