University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy

University of Architecture Civil Engineering and Geodesy stands as a top public technical institute which operates from its central Sofia location in Bulgaria. The university serves as the primary academic research center for built environment studies because it is the oldest and most respected institution in the country which offers these programs. The campus exists next to Vasil Levski National Stadium which creates an active urban space that combines traditional academic space with contemporary infrastructure development requirements. The institution was established in 1942 when Tsar Boris III issued a decree to create the Higher Technical School because the nation required local engineers during its modernization efforts. The institution evolved into the State Polytechnic in 1945 after World War II ended which led to its development into a Civil Engineering Institute in 1953. The institution underwent multiple name transformations throughout its existence which included its 1977 designation as the Higher Institute of Architecture and Civil Engineering VIAS which established its research capabilities and academic programs. The General Assembly voted in 1990 to change the name to University of Architecture Civil Engineering and Geodesy which the Bulgarian Parliament confirmed in 1995 to establish the institution as a full university.
