Minnan Normal University

Minnan Normal University, formerly known as Zhangzhou Normal University, is a public university located in Zhangzhou, Fujian Province, China.

This university's history is a fascinating tapestry woven over centuries. While its official founding falls in 1958, its roots delve deep into the past. Its story begins with the esteemed Songzhou academy, established a staggering 1300 years ago. This early institution laid the groundwork for fostering knowledge and scholarship.

Fast forward to 1915, and the seeds of the modern university were sown with the establishment of a College Teacher-training Course by a local teachers' school. This marked a turning point, focusing on equipping educators with the necessary skills to guide future generations. The year 1958 witnessed a significant milestone. Building upon the foundation laid by the teacher-training course, the university, then unnamed, officially opened its doors. Over the following years, it underwent a period of development and evolution. In 1963, under the auspices of the then Premier Zhou Enlai, the university received official approval from the State Council, solidifying its legitimacy and paving the way for undergraduate education.

The journey continued with relocations in the late 1970s before finally settling at its current location. In 1986, it adopted the name Zhangzhou Normal College, reflecting its focus on teacher education. The following decades saw the university flourish through dedication and hard work. Recognition came in 1992 with the authorization to confer bachelor degrees. This was followed by another significant achievement in 2000 when it became one of the first normal colleges in the country to pass the Ministry of Education's qualification evaluation for teaching undergraduates. Academic excellence continued to be a hallmark, with a straight-A score received in the 2008 undergraduate level Teaching Appraisal. Finally, in 2013, the university embarked on a new chapter, adopting its current name – Minnan Normal University. This change signifies its commitment to not only teacher education but also to the broader cultural and educational landscape of the Minnan region.

The university's motto, "cultivating Taiwan-related cultural and educational talents to serve the great cause of the reunification of the motherland," reflects its unique position and commitment.  It aspires to bridge the cultural and educational gap between the mainland and Taiwan, fostering understanding and unity.
