Nanjing Normal University

Nanjing Normal University is a prestigious public university located in Nanjing, Jiangsu, China.

This esteemed university's roots stretch back to 1902, with its initial establishment as the Sanjiang Normal School. This institution was a pioneer in the realm of higher education for educators in China. Throughout the following decades, the school underwent a fascinating metamorphosis, transforming its name and structure several times. It evolved from Liangjiang Advanced Normal School to National Nanjing Higher Normal School, reflecting its growing stature and focus on teacher training. The school became National Southeastern University, then National 4th Sun Yat-sen University, National Jiangsu University, National Central University, and finally, Nanjing University. Another crucial thread in the university's history involves the establishment of the University of Nanking in 1888. Initially known as Nanking Academy, it evolved into the Private University of Nanking. Notably, it held the distinction of being the first institution in China officially designated as a "university" in English and was even registered with the New York State Education Department.
