North China University of Water Conservancy and Electric Power is a provincial public university in Zhengzhou, Henan, China.

The university's history is a fascinating journey of adaptation and growth, mirroring the changing needs of China's water and energy landscape. Established in 1951 in Beijing, it began as a water conservancy school, a response to the nation's pressing need for expertise in managing its vital water resources. In 1954, it was renamed the Beijing Water Conservancy School, solidifying its focus. The year 1958 marked a turning point. The school merged with a hydropower school, reflecting the growing importance of harnessing water for electricity generation. This merger led to the institution's first name change, becoming the Beijing Water Conservancy and Hydropower College.

However, the university's location wasn't set in stone. In 1969, it relocated to Hebei province, reflecting a shift in national priorities. This move also necessitated a name change, becoming the Hebei Water Conservancy and Hydropower College in 1971. The late 1970s saw further changes. The university moved again, this time to Bengbu in Hebei, and in 1978, received its current geographical designation as the North China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower. This period marked a maturing of the institution's focus, encompassing both water conservancy and hydropower expertise.

Finally, in 1990, the university found its permanent home in Zhengzhou, Henan province. This move solidified its position as a leading institution in central China. A decade later, in 2000, the management structure also changed, transitioning from being solely under the Ministry of Water Resources to a co-sponsored institution between the Henan Provincial Government and the Ministry. This shift reflected the university's growing importance within the province.
