Southwestern University of Finance and Economics

Southwestern University of Finance and Economics is a well-regarded public university in China, specializing in finance, economics, and business.

The esteemed institution's roots stretch back to 1925, a time of social upheaval in China. A group of students and academics, led by the visionary Zhang Shouyong, departed St. John's University in Shanghai, yearning for an education that directly addressed the needs of society. This spirit of defiance led them to establish Kwang Hua University, laying the foundation for the future institution. Over the next few decades, the university mirrored the changing landscape of China. In 1961, it adopted the name Chengdu University, serving as a cornerstone for education in the region. Recognizing its potential for fostering future economic leaders, the People's Bank of China assumed its administration in 1980. This period of growth culminated in 1985 when the university received its current name, solidifying its focus on finance and economics. Finally, in the year 2000, the baton passed to the Ministry of Education, ensuring its continued development within the national education system.
