University of South China

University of South China, formerly Nanhua University, is a comprehensive public university located in Hengyang, Hunan Province, China.

This university's history stretches back to the late 1950s, marked by the birth of two prominent institutions.  In 1958, the Hengyang Medical College emerged, laying the foundation for excellence in healthcare education.  Following suit in 1959, the Central South Institute of Technology solidified the region's reputation for technological expertise.  These two institutions operated independently for over four decades, each shaping the educational landscape in its respective field.

The year 2000 marked a turning point. Recognizing the potential for a more comprehensive educational experience, the two institutions merged to form the university we know today. This powerful combination created a well-rounded university encompassing a vast array of disciplines, from medicine and engineering to the humanities and social sciences. The university's growth continued in 2002 with the incorporation of the Sixth Institute of National Nuclear Industry, further expanding its research capabilities.  It also assumed responsibility for No. 415 Hospital, solidifying its commitment to providing advanced healthcare services.  In a unique partnership formed in 2004, the Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy established a training base for its reservist officers within the university, highlighting the institution's dedication to national service.
