Xidian University

Xidian University is a public university in Xi'an, Shaanxi, China.

This prestigious university's history stretches back to 1931, a time of immense change in China. Its humble beginnings were in Ruijin, Jiangxi province, where it was established as the Radio School of the Central Military Commission. This marked a significant milestone - it was the very first technical school founded by the Communist Party of China. In those early years, the focus was on nurturing talent critical for the nation's telecommunications needs. The following decades saw the school embark on a journey of relocation and evolution. In 1949, it moved to Zhangjiakou, Hebei province. Then, in 1958, it found its permanent home in Xi'an, Shaanxi province. This period also witnessed a shift in its identity. In 1960, it was renamed the People's Liberation Army Institute of Telecommunication Engineering, reflecting its close ties to the military.

However, 1966 marked a turning point. The name was changed to Northwest Institute of Telecommunication Engineering, signifying a move away from its purely military focus and towards a broader academic role. This trend continued in 1988 when the university embraced its current name, Xidian University, solidifying its position as a comprehensive institution. Throughout its journey, Xidian University has consistently adapted and grown. It was designated as one of the first 20 national key universities in China in 1959, a testament to its early recognition as a leader in education. It continues to be a vital part of China's prestigious Project 211 and Project 85 initiatives, programs designed to elevate the research capabilities of top universities.

The university's motto encapsulates its core values: "厚德 求真 砺学 笃行" (Hòu dé qiú zhēn lì xué dú xíng), which translates to "cultivate virtue, seek truth, sharpen learning, and practice diligently." This motto serves as a guiding light for students and faculty alike, emphasizing the importance of not only academic excellence but also moral character and a dedication to putting knowledge into action. Looking forward, the university is poised to make significant contributions to the ever-evolving world of technology. With its focus on research and development, it aims to be at the forefront of groundbreaking discoveries. The university aspires to not only educate future generations of tech leaders but also to play a pivotal role in shaping the technological landscape of tomorrow.
