Costa Rican University of Technology

Costa Rica Institute of Technology stands as a top public research institution in Cartago city. The institution functions as a national autonomous body which operates scientific and technological development facilities throughout the nation while creating a sustainable campus design with contemporary building systems. The university uses its motto Formación Sólida, Óptimos Resultados (Solid Training, Optimal Results) to train professionals who will serve the country's development needs. The university operates its main campus from Dulce Nombre district, which provides students with an academic environment that supports advanced research activities while promoting environmental protection.

The university was officially established on June 10, 1971, through Law No. 4777, emerging as part of a national strategy to modernize the Costa Rican productive sector. The institution emerged as a solution to the increasing need for specialized technical education which traditional universities of that era could not provide. The institution started from its original Cartago location and expanded to multiple regional campuses and San Carlos academic centers, San José academic centers, Alajuela academic centers, and Limón academic centers. The Government of the Republic designated the university as a "Benemérita Institution of Costa Rican education, culture, and science and technology" in 2012, which recognized its essential role in advancing the country's social and economic development through its historical educational work.
