National Polytechnic School

The National Polytechnic School (Escuela Politécnica Nacional, EPN) is a public university in Quito, Ecuador. It is the second-oldest university in the country, and is consistently ranked as one of the top universities in Ecuador.

The National Polytechnic School (EPN) was founded on August 27, 1869 by the National Convention of Ecuador and the former Ecuadorian President Gabriel García Moreno. EPN is the second-oldest public university in Ecuador, after Central University of Ecuador.

EPN was founded with the aim of becoming the first technical and technological center in the country. Since its beginnings, EPN adopted the polytechnic university model, which stresses laboratory instruction in applied science and engineering.

In the early years of its existence, EPN offered a limited number of programs, but it quickly expanded its curriculum to meet the growing needs of the country. By the early 20th century, EPN was offering programs in civil engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and architecture.

EPN played a key role in the development of Ecuador's infrastructure and economy in the 20th century. The university's graduates designed and built many of the country's roads, bridges, dams, and power plants. EPN's research also helped to develop new technologies in agriculture, mining, and other industries.
