Isfahan University of Medical Sciences

Isfahan University of Medical Sciences (IUMS), also known as Medical University of Isfahan (MUI), is a public university specializing in basic medical sciences, clinical science, and health services, located in Isfahan, Iran.

Isfahan University of Medical Sciences (IUMS) traces its lineage to one of the world's oldest medical schools, founded in the city in 1024/5 by Buali Sina, also known as Avicenna. Buali Sina was a remarkable scholar whose writings and insights would inform standard medical practice across the world until the 18th Century.

The modern IUMS was founded in 1946, as the Isfahan Higher School of Health Education. In 1950, the Isfahan Faculty of Medicine was inaugurated and students were admitted for the M.D. degrees after a 6-year medical training course.

In the following years, new faculties and schools were added to the university, including the Faculty of Pharmacy, School of Nursing, and Faculty of Dentistry. In 1985, the Isfahan University of Medical Sciences was established as a separate university from the University of Isfahan.

IUMS has grown rapidly since its founding and is now one of the largest and most prestigious medical universities in Iran. It is a major center for medical research and has produced some of the most renowned scientists in Iran. The university has a strong track record of publishing in international peer-reviewed journals and has received numerous grants from national and international funding agencies.
