Sharif University of Technology

Sharif University of Technology (SUT) is a public research university in Tehran, Iran. It is widely considered as the nation's most prestigious and leading institution for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields.

Sharif University of Technology (SUT) was founded in 1966 as Aryamehr University of Technology by Mohammad Ali Mojtahedi. The university was established with the aim of training and providing some of the specialized personnel needed in the country, at high scientific levels.

In 1975, the university was renamed Sharif University of Technology after Majid Sharif Vaghefi, a former student and leader of the People's Mujahedin of Iran group who was killed by members of a splinter group.

After the Iranian Revolution in 1979, SUT underwent a number of changes. The university's curriculum was revised to be more in line with Islamic values, and a number of faculty members were dismissed for their political beliefs. However, SUT remained a leading institution for STEM education and research in Iran.

In the 1990s, SUT began to expand its offerings to include programs in management, economics, and the humanities. The university also established a number of research centers and institutes.

Today, SUT is one of the largest and most prestigious universities in Iran. SUT has played an important role in the development of Iran's economy and technology. Many of the country's leading scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs are SUT graduates. The university has also been at the forefront of Iran's efforts to develop new technologies, such as nuclear energy and aerospace engineering.

Based on the QS World University Rankings of 2024, Sharif University of Technology is positioned as the #334 top university in the world, which makes it the #1 top university in Iran.
