Beirut Islamic University

Beirut Islamic University is a specialized private university offering high-quality education under the supervision of Dar Al-Fatwa in Beirut, Lebanon. The university has officially been accredited by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education of Lebanon, aiming to combine academic rigors with Islamic Law, Jurisprudence, and Ethics. BIU offers bachelor's, master's, and PhD courses from faculties specialized in Islamic Sharia, Islamic Judiciary, and Applied Science. Through the degree courses provided at the university, BIU strives to cultivate scholars who can confront social issues via discussion and scholarly inquiry.

The university has its origins in 1982 when it was initially founded as the Faculty of Islamic Call (Kulliyat al-Da'wah al-Islamiyyah) under the Grand Mufti Sheikh Hassan Khaled. Following an academic equivalence between 1990 and Al-Azhar University, the faculty was then renamed to Faculty of Islamic Sharia for consolidating legal and religious courses. A special branch for female students was inaugurated in 1991, and on October 1996, a Presidential Decree No. 9278 was issued for establishing Beirut Islamic University. Today, Beirut Islamic University continues to be an important place of learning that aims at preserving the Islamic culture and advocating a moderate form of religion. Through providing high standards of theological studies alongside current educational norms, the university ensures its students are prepared for positions in judiciary, scholarly work, and community services. It further works on building its position in the Lebanese higher education system.
