Makassed University of Beirut

Makassed University of Beirut is a private not-for-profit educational body located in the Msaytbeh locality of Beirut, Lebanon. The university functions under the supervision of the Makassed Philanthropic Islamic Association of Beirut – one of the major charitable and educational bodies in the country – and runs on full accreditation from the Lebanese Ministry of Education and Higher Education. This organization offers accredited programs at the level of bachelor’s and master’s degrees for Islamic studies, nursing and health sciences, and teacher education. MUB has a rich background of community service, ethics, and social empowerment.

The development of the university itself is very closely connected with the healthcare and educational programs initiated by the parent body organization and dates back to 1948 when the National Nursing School was founded by Dr. Mustafa Khalidi. In 1954, the nursing school was incorporated within the Makassed Philanthropic Islamic Association and worked together with the Makassed General Hospital, improving the quality of education provided to eventually transform into a fully certified higher institute in 1986. With the aim of bringing together all the specialized branches of education that the institution had, it received its official university status by Presidential Decree No. 3585 on August 7, 2000. After becoming a university, MUB updated its credit-hour curricula, broadened the range of health sciences, and included technical training centers.

The Makassed University of Beirut continues to play an important part in the academic and social environment of Lebanon by offering quality education at affordable rates. The alliance that the institution has established with the medical facilities like the Makassed General Hospital helps the medical students get practical experience. The Makassed University of Beirut instills humanitarian values in its students along with excellent education so that they can serve different professional fields.
