MEU received its higher education accreditation in 1949 by the Lebanese government. As a result of continual growth in its academic offerings, MEU attained university status through the presidential decree in June 2001.

At present, Middle East University continues to carry out its mission as a compassionate and inclusive academic institution supporting students in Lebanon and around the region. By maintaining small classes, mentoring students with specialized faculty members, and having modern campus facilities, the university ensures that its graduates are ready for their professional life and advanced postgraduate education. Because of its commitment to spiritual integrity, cultural dialogue and lifetime learning, the university functions as the unique and notable academic institution in the field of higher education in Lebanon.
