Rafik Hariri University

Rafik Hariri University is a private, not-for-profit university located in the charming village of Mechref in the Damour region of Mount Lebanon. This university operates through the licensing of the Lebanese Ministry of Education and Higher Education offering various courses at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the fields of business administration, engineering, and arts and sciences. RHU has international standards of accreditation on all of its degrees including ABET-accredited engineering programs and ACBSP-accredited business programs. Founded on the principle of being student-centered, this university focuses on practical learning, technology incorporation, and providing quality and affordable education. Moreover, the university’s cutting-edge campus perched on the hill is a vibrant center of creativity and leadership development in the Northern Chouf region and beyond.

The history of the foundation of the university is marked by the philanthropic vision of former Prime Minister of Lebanon Rafik Hariri and the Rafik Hariri Foundation. First efforts to build a university campus in Kfarfalous in the early 1980s proved fruitless due to the ongoing conflict, hence the shift to funding higher education via scholarships internationally. After the end of the civil war, the project was revived in collaboration with various Canadian educational institutions such as the Canadian Bureau for International Education and Memorial University. The institution was formally inaugurated in September 1999 as a business college before quickly expanding into engineering and computer sciences faculties. In June 2006, the institution received a status of a university through presidential decree and became known as the Rafik Hariri University.
