Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) is the oldest and largest Dutch public technical university, located in Delft, Netherlands.
The history of Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) can be traced back to 1595, when Prince Maurice of Nassau founded a school of engineering in Delft. The school was originally intended to train military engineers, but it soon expanded its scope to include other branches of engineering, as well as science and mathematics. In 1864, the school was renamed the Polytechnic School of Delft, and in 1905, it was granted university status, becoming the Delft University of Technology.
TU Delft quickly established itself as one of the leading technical universities in Europe. In the early 20th century, it was at the forefront of research in fields such as aviation, hydraulic engineering, and chemical engineering. TU Delft also played a key role in the development of the Dutch economy, providing the engineers and scientists needed to fuel the country's rapid industrialization.
During World War II, TU Delft was occupied by the Nazis. The university was reopened in 1945, and it played a vital role in the reconstruction of the Netherlands.
