AGH University of Science and Technology

AGH University of Science and Technology (AGH UST) is a public university in Kraków, Poland.

The history of AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków dates back to 1912, when a group of outstanding engineers and mining activists, led by Jan Zarański, initiated the process of applying for a consent to establish a school of higher education that would educate mining engineers in Kraków.

The consent was granted in 1913, and the school was named the Academy of Mining and Metallurgy (Akademia Górniczo-Hutnicza). However, due to the outbreak of World War I, the school did not officially open its doors until 1919.

In the early years, AGH focused on educating mining engineers. However, as the Polish economy grew and diversified, the school expanded its curriculum to include other engineering disciplines, as well as science and technology.

During World War II, AGH was closed by the Nazi occupation forces. However, the school reopened after the war and quickly resumed its operations.

In the postwar years, AGH experienced rapid growth. The school expanded its campus and added new faculties and programs. AGH also became a leading center for research in engineering and technology.

In 1991, AGH was renamed the AGH University of Science and Technology. The new name reflected the school's expanded focus on science and technology.

Today, AGH is one of the leading technical universities in Central and Eastern Europe.
