Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how "All University Info" collects, uses, keeps, and shares information about people who use the www.alluniversity.info website ("Site"). Please read it carefully so you understand how we handle your personal information. By using the Site, you accept this policy, and if you keep using the Site after we change it, you accept those changes too.
Information You Provide to Us
You can browse most of the Site without telling us anything about yourself. You only give us personal information when you choose to.
-
When you create an account
We store your email address, your name, an optional display name shown publicly in place of your name, and optionally the country you are in. We store your password only as a secure, irreversible hash — never as text we can read. -
When you sign in with another service
If you sign in through an external provider such as Google, we receive your email address and basic profile details from that provider so we can create or match your account. We never receive your password for that service. -
When you turn on two-factor authentication
We email you a one-time code and store it, in hashed form, only until it is used or expires. -
When you post content
Questions, answers, reviews, university updates, messages, and university submissions are stored along with the account that created them. -
When you contact us or a university
We keep the message you send and the address we should reply to.
You can always decline to give us information, but some parts of the Site will not work without it.
Information We Collect Automatically
When you use the Site, we automatically record some technical information, including your IP address, browser type, operating system, and referring page. We use it to:
- keep a security record of sign-ins, sign-in failures, and password changes on your account, together with the IP address and browser used;
- apply rate limits and block abusive traffic;
- count page views without counting the same visitor repeatedly; and
- understand how the Site is used, in aggregate.
Cookies
Cookies are small files your browser stores on your device. We use them for a small number of specific purposes:
- Signing you in — a cookie that keeps you signed in between pages.
- Two-factor authentication — short-lived cookies used only while you are completing a sign-in code or confirming that you want two-factor authentication enabled.
- Advertising and analytics — set by the third parties described below, not by us.
You can set your browser to refuse cookies or warn you when one is sent. If you do, parts of the Site — signing in in particular — will not work.
How We Use Your Information
-
To operate the Site
To run your account, publish what you post, deliver messages you send, and keep the Site secure. -
To respond to you
To answer your questions, support requests, and reports. -
To improve the Site
To understand how the Site is used and to act on the feedback you give us. -
To send you email
To send notifications about your account and about activity you are involved in, and other messages you have asked to receive. Every non-essential email includes a way to unsubscribe. -
To run promotions, contests, or surveys
If we ever run one, we will use the information you give us for it only for that purpose, and we will say so at the time.
Email and Email Tracking
We send two kinds of email.
Service email is sent because of something you did — confirming your address, resetting your password, sending a sign-in code, or telling you about a reply or a decision on something you submitted. You cannot unsubscribe from service email while you have an account, because it is how we tell you about your own account.
Informational email is sent to universities listed on the Site. Every one of these includes an unsubscribe link, and a university can also change what it receives from its own settings page.
We measure how informational email performs. These messages contain a small invisible image and links that pass through our Site before forwarding you on. Together these tell us whether a message was opened and whether a link in it was clicked. We use this only to judge whether our messages are useful and to stop sending mail nobody reads. Service email is not tracked this way.
Messages to Universities
When you message a university through the Site, what happens next depends on whether that university has claimed its profile.
- If it has been claimed, your message stays on the Site. The verified representative reads and replies to it here, and you both get an email letting you know there is a reply waiting.
- If it has not been claimed, we have no one on the Site to deliver it to, so we forward your message by email to the university's published address, with your email address set as the reply address. Your message therefore leaves the Site, and any reply comes to you directly rather than through us. A copy stays in your inbox here, and if that university later claims its profile, the conversation continues on the Site.
Your Public Profile and Contributions
Anything you post publicly — questions, answers, reviews, and university updates — is visible to anyone, including people who are not signed in.
Once you have posted at least one public contribution, you also get a public profile page showing your display name, your country if you gave one, the month you joined, and a list of what you have posted. That page can be found through search engines. We never show your email address, your role, or the name on your account if you have set a separate display name.
How We Share Information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information.
We share it only where it is necessary to run the Site: with the university you choose to contact, as described above; with the service providers who send our email and host the Site; and where we are required to by law. We may share aggregated statistics that do not identify anyone with partners and advertisers.
How Long We Keep Information
Your account and the content you post remain until you or we remove them.
Our internal record of actions taken on the Site — who edited or moderated what, and when — is kept for a limited period, currently about three months, after which it is moved to an offline archive that is itself deleted after roughly two years. Security records of sign-in activity are kept for as long as they are useful for protecting accounts.
How We Protect Your Information
We follow appropriate practices for collecting, storing, and processing data, and we use security measures designed to protect against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction of your personal information and of the data held on the Site. Passwords are stored only as hashes. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot promise absolute security.
Advertising
We show advertising on the Site through third-party advertising partners, including Google. Those partners may set their own cookies and use them to recognise your device and show advertisements they judge to be relevant, including advertisements based on your previous visits to this and other websites. This Privacy Policy does not cover how advertisers use cookies; their own policies do.
Where the law requires it, we ask for your consent before advertising cookies are used to personalise what you see. That request is handled by a consent tool provided by our advertising partner, which lets you agree, decline, or manage your choices in more detail. You can reopen that tool at any time to change your mind.
Third-Party Websites
The Site links to other websites, including university websites, advertisers, and other resources. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for how they operate or what they do with your information. Once you follow a link away from here, that site's own terms and privacy policy apply.
Your Choices
- You can edit or delete most of what you post from the page where you posted it.
- You can change the name shown publicly, or the country on your profile, from your account settings.
- You can unsubscribe from any informational email using the link in it.
- A university representative can change which kinds of email that university receives from its own settings page.
- For anything else — including questions about the information we hold about you — please contact us.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy at any time. When we do, we will change the date at the bottom of this page. We encourage you to check this page from time to time, and you accept that it is your responsibility to do so and to be aware of any changes.
