University of the Visual & Performing Arts is a public university located primarily in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

University of the Visual & Performing Arts (UVPA) in Sri Lanka pulsates with a rich history rooted in over 120 years of artistic expression. Its journey began in 1893, intertwined with the establishment of the Ceylon Technical College, where Drawing and Painting were among the first courses offered. Over the decades, the dedication to nurturing artistic talent blossomed. In 1953, the Government Institute of Arts transformed into the Government School of Fine Arts, gaining independence as a department under the Ministry of Education. This pivotal step provided a dedicated space for learning diverse disciplines like drawing, painting, sculpture, crafts, music, and dance.

The year 1999 marked a significant milestone with the official establishment of UVPA. Dr. Lester James Peiris and Professor Sarath Amunugama were appointed as the first Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor, respectively, entrusted with the crucial task of shaping this premier institution for the arts.

Today, UVPA stands tall as a beacon of artistic excellence in Sri Lanka. Its campus, nestled in the heart of Colombo, throbs with the energy of creativity.
