China Medical University

China Medical University, located in Shenyang, Liaoning Province, China, is one of the oldest public medical universities in China providing Western medicine formal tertiary education. It plays a key role as part of the national medical care system in China. There are two main campuses on which CMU operates: Heping and Shenbei Campuses. CMU provides a modern academic environment that combines cutting-edge research facilities with clinical and practical experience. CMU has achieved high-impact medical research results and has developed an extensive affiliated network of hospitals throughout Northeast China for patient care and to support clinical education.

CMU's history is unique and rich. Originally established as the Military Medical School of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army in Ruijin, Jiangxi Province, in 1931, CMU is the first medical school founded by the Chinese Communist Party. CMU is also well-known for continuing its education during the 12,500-kilometre Long March. In 1940, Mao Zedong officially re-named the Military Medical School as China Medical University. CMU moved to Shenyang in 1948 when it absorbed numerous existing medical schools: South Manchuria Medical College; Mukden Medical College; North Manchuria Medical College; and Medical College of the Northeast Associated University, establishing CMU as the principal centre for medical college.
