Magtymguly Turkmen State University was founded in 1931 as Ashgabat Pedagogical Institute and is one of the oldest higher educational institutions in Turkmenistan. In 1950 the Institute was reorganized into the Turkmen State University. Now it is named after the classic poet of Turkmen literature Magtymguly Pyragy.
