About Kampala University

Kampala University (KU) was established by Owek. Amb. Al-Haj Prof. Badru Dungu Kateregga in February 1998 and officially opened its doors to its pioneer students on 16th February 1999. The University was first licensed by the Ministry of Education and Sports on 23rd November 2000 to operate as an institution of higher learning and held its first graduation ceremony in 2003, graduating 141 students.

Kampala University is fully recognized and accredited by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE). On 23rd March 2016, the University was granted a Charter by the Government of Uganda, signed by H.E. Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda. In 2018, the University was officially gazetted, affirming the national, regional, and international recognition of its operations, academic programmes, and qualifications.

Today, Kampala University is one of Uganda's leading chartered private universities, offering over 130 accredited undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across five campuses: Ggaba Main Campus, Luweero Campus, Jinja Campus, Mutundwe School of Nursing and Health Sciences, and Masaka Campus. The University is home to more than 10,000 students representing over 20 nationalities and has proudly produced over 35,000 graduates in the past 27 years.
