Coventry University

Coventry University, which is a public institution primarily aimed at doing research, is located in the West Midlands of England and has a world-class reputation throughout the globe. The campus itself is located within a city centre and as such has made significant contributions to Coventry and its economy through culture and arts, as well as having tertiary campuses in London and Scarborough, and various international centers. Coventry University’s facilities are modern, and the institution has a strong strategic focus on employability, inclusion, and working with businesses. In national league tables Coventry University is frequently recognized for its student experience and has established a national and international reputation for being an outward looking institution that connects scholarship to the real world.

The history of Coventry University dates back to the middle of the 19th Century through its establishment as the Coventry School of Design in 1843. The establishment of this school was the first step in the evolution of what would become Coventry University, and its purpose was to provide the local community with the necessary skills (both technical and artistic). Over the years, through several different mergers and name changes and with the current name dating back to the time of Lanchester Polytechnic in 1970, Coventry University has maintained close ties to the region's manufacturing and engineering sectors, which it established when it became a polytechnic named after Frederick Lanchester (automotive engineer). Coventry University attained university status from 2000 and beyond as defined by the Further and Higher Education Act 1992.
