Loughborough University

Loughborough University functions as a leading research institution which operates as a public university in Loughborough Leicestershire England and maintains a second campus for postgraduate studies at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London. The primary campus of the university extends over 523 acres which contains advanced facilities that compete with the best sports centers and laboratories and social spaces found throughout the United Kingdom. The institution started its operations in 1909 when it established a Technical Institute in the town center to provide local residents with education in science and art and technical subjects. The college experienced significant expansion during the 35-year tenure of Dr. Herbert Schofield who served as its principal and used the college as an educational center between 1920 and 1940. The institution underwent multiple organizational changes before it received its Royal Charter in 1966 which established it as Loughborough University of Technology. The university changed its name to Loughborough University in 1996 which marked the official elimination of the "of Technology" designation and the university expanded its academic programs through its 1977 merger with Loughborough College of Education and its 1998 merger with Loughborough College of Art and Design.
