The university-based identity originated from the historic merger on August 1, 2024 between City University of London and St George University of London which brought together two distinguished institutions. The St George institution brought its historical legacy which began in 1733 when it became one of the oldest medical schools in the United Kingdom while City established its history through the establishment of the Northampton Institute in 1894 which later transformed into a "College of Advanced Technology" before receiving its Royal Charter in 1966. The union functioned to establish a "health powerhouse" which developed into a stronger multi-faculty institution through the combination of St George's top medical expertise and City's knowledge of law and business and technology.
