Tashkent State University of Economics

Tashkent State University of Economics which people in Uzbekistan call "University of Leaders" functions as the main public university for economic studies and research activities in Uzbekistan. The university operates from its central location in Tashkent because it serves as an essential educational center which trains skilled professionals who will support the country's economic development. The institution traces its origins back to 1918 with the establishment of vocational commerce courses at Turkestan People's University yet its official founding date is celebrated as August 13 1931. The Central Asian Institute of Finance and Economics which opened its doors as an educational institution underwent several name changes during the Soviet period which included a major period as the Tashkent Institute of National Economy. The institute received university status from the president of Uzbekistan in 1991 after the country gained independence. The university has produced a distinguished roster of alumni who include Islam Karimov the first President of Uzbekistan and numerous prime ministers and high-ranking government officials who have shaped the country's modern landscape.
