Tashkent University of Information Technologies named after Muhammad Al-Khwarizmi is the leading specialized hgher education institution in Uzbekistan dedicated to the fields of information and communication technologies. The main academic and research center of the country operates from its central Tashkent location to support the advancement of digital transformation and telecommunications research activities. The university is named in honor of the legendary 9th-century scholar Muhammad ibn Musa al-Khwarizmi, the "father of algebra," whose work laid the mathematical foundations for modern algorithms and computing. The institution operates various regional branches throughout the country which enable it to shape Central Asia's technological development while training future IT professionals.

The university's history started in 1955 when it was established as the Tashkent Electrotechnical Institute of Communications to prepare engineers for the Soviet Union's expanding telecommunications networks. The organization operated for multiple decades as the exclusive training center for communication experts in Central Asia while establishing a strong scientific and educational foundation. A presidential decree from May 2002 transformed the institute into a university which received the Al-Khwarizmi name to improve its recognition in both national and international contexts. The institution has expanded significantly since that time by establishing multiple regional branches while updating its facilities to transform into a modern research university.
