Hanoi University of Science and Technology

Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST), formerly known as Hanoi University of Technology (HUT), is the oldest and largest technical university in Vietnam.

The history of Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) can be traced back to the early 20th century, when the French colonial government established the Indochina University in Hanoi. In 1956, after the Viet Cong took control of Hanoi, the Soviet Union helped North Vietnam to build a new technical university as a frame for university education. The construction took about two years from the grounds of an old campus of Indochina University.

On October 10, 1956, Hanoi Polytechnic University was officially established, marking the beginning of a new era of technical education in Vietnam. The university initially offered four undergraduate programs: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Chemical Engineering. In 1959, the university was renamed Hanoi University of Technology (HUT).

HUST quickly became the leading technical university in Vietnam. It played a vital role in training the country's first generation of engineers and scientists, who went on to play key roles in the development of Vietnam's economy and society.

During the Vietnam War, HUT continued to operate, despite the difficult conditions. The university's faculty and students made significant contributions to the war effort, developing new technologies and equipment to support the Vietnamese army.

After the war, HUT resumed its focus on teaching and research. The university expanded its academic offerings to include new fields such as computer science, electronics, and telecommunications. It also began to offer graduate programs and doctoral programs.

In 2010, HUT was renamed Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) to reflect its broader academic focus.

HUST is a highly internationalized university with students and faculty members from all over the world. It has partnerships with universities and research institutions in many countries, and it offers a variety of international exchange and research opportunities to its students and faculty.
