Aleksandër Moisiu University of Durrës stands as a major public educational institution which exists in the historical coastal town of Durrës, Albania. The university functions as the first public educational institution in Albania which adopted an American academic system to transform the nation's tertiary education system. The university exists through its central campus located in Currila and its extensive contemporary campus facility in Spitallë. The Albanian government established the university on December 20, 2005, and the institution began admitting its first students in October 2006. The university received its name to honor Aleksandër Moisiu who achieved international fame as an Albanian stage and film actor during the early 20th century. The institution underwent rapid development during the next 20 years, which led to the construction of its Spitallë campus in 2013. The academic institution initiated this transformation as part of a plan to abandon traditional teaching methods while implementing contemporary Western-style administrative procedures throughout Albanian public institutions.
