Southern Cross University

Southern Cross University operates multiple campuses in New South Wales and Queensland which serve as the base for its educational programs. The university uses the Southern Cross constellation as its main symbol because it represents the school's distinct identity and shows students how to think independently while pursuing new ideas. The university established an academic environment which is both cooperative and welcoming because it maintains strong ties to local communities and uses environmentally sustainable practices. The organization has built a strong international presence which enables it to create educational partnerships that extend throughout the world while it develops programs which challenge established academic practices. 

The institution began its development process in 1970 when Lismore Teachers' College opened its doors for educational activities. The Northern Rivers College of Advanced Education became associated with the University of New England network after it first started as a teaching institution which operated until the late 1980s. The government completed its transitional process which turned Southern Cross University into a self-governing institution on January 1 1994. The university has achieved various important goals since its establishment which include the 2002 launch of the National Marine Science Centre and the ongoing growth of its Gold Coast campus which transformed from a regional college into a global research institution.
