From an EEE Graduate
Well, you can call me an ancient. That is totally fine. I was a student of Ahsanuallh University, EEE 15th batch. I graduated in 2009. Many things might have been updated now. However, I am gonna be honest and write what I saw and experienced. I am from the era of the rented campuses. That was not a big problem because I saw the campus before depositing money for admission.
1-1's EEE-101 course is the foundation of EEE. In the middle of the semester, we came to know that our course teacher was leaving for the USA. He missed many classes due to his visa processing and finally left. Surprisingly, the university authorities arranged no substitute teacher for us. Only one or two extra classes were arranged just before the exam.
In the electronics circuit lab, we were warned that if somebody damaged the oscilloscope, they would need to pay a BDT 26K fine. So, except for some 'bravehearts', no one dared to touch it, being unaware of the fact that some of those were already faulty. Unlike our batchmates in BUET, we had no separate 1.5-credit lab for P-SPICE.
Electrical Machines course started from 2-1, and it continued till the third year. If the lab technician was absent, lab classes often had to be postponed because the teachers did not know what he knew.
In the fourth year, we had to choose two subjects. On one side, we had to choose between DSP and Biomedical Engineering. On the other hand, we had to choose between Microwave and VLSI. Biomedical Engineering was the reason why I came to study EEE, but I liked DSP too. BIOMEDICAL IS NOTHING WITHOUT DSP. But at AUST in our time, we had to choose between these two! What a joke it was! I hope things are not this way now.
Then came the final semester! In the control systems lab, we got to see a Rockwell PLC. But ALAS! That PLC was already dead. Nothing was taught about PLCs. We did not draw a single ladder diagram.
I hope there are better lab facilities and an updated syllabus now. During my hard time, I had some excellent teachers to whom I will remain forever grateful. Dr Monjur Morshed sir and Late Professor Abdur Rahim Mollah sir were two among them. They were very cordial and fatherly and learned teachers.
