Mymensingh Medical College

Mymensingh Medical College (MMC) is a public medical college and hospital in Mymensingh, Bangladesh.

The seeds of Mymensingh Medical College were sown in the mid-19th century when a dispensary was established in Mymensingh in 1855. This basic healthcare facility was followed by the construction of Surya Kanta Hospital in 1857, named after the then Maharaz of Mymensingh. Over the next few decades, the hospital saw several expansions and additions, funded by local elites and the district administration.

In 1924, during the British Raj, the Earl of Lytton, then-governor of Bengal, established the Lytton Medical School in Mymensingh. The school initially offered a four-year program for the Licentiate of Medical Faculty (LMF) qualification. In 1962, the Lytton Medical School was upgraded to Mymensingh Medical College, and it began offering the MBBS degree program.

The Mymensingh Medical College Hospital is a tertiary referral hospital serving over 20 million people in the Mymensingh Division. It provides a wide range of specialist services, including cardiology, neurology, oncology, and surgery.
