Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology

Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET), nestled amidst the vibrant educational hub of North Bengal, stands tall as a beacon of engineering excellence in Bangladesh. Its journey, however, began not with the grand title of a university, but with the humble beginnings of an engineering college in 1964.

The year 1964 witnessed the birth of Rajshahi Engineering College, then a constituent college under the University of Rajshahi. With just three departments - Mechanical Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, and Civil Engineering - and a limited intake of 122 students, the college embarked on its mission to nurture future engineers for the burgeoning nation.

The following two decades saw steady growth, with the addition of new departments like Chemical Engineering, Textile Engineering, and Industrial & Production Engineering. In 1986, recognizing the college's burgeoning stature, the government transformed it into the Bangladesh Institute of Technology (BIT) Rajshahi.

The 21st century marked a pivotal moment for BIT Rajshahi. In 2003, through the Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology Act, the institute shed its affiliation and blossomed into a full-fledged university. This newfound autonomy paved the way for further expansion and diversification.
