Rajshahi University (RU) is a public research university located in Rajshahi, Bangladesh. It is the second oldest university in Bangladesh, after the University of Dhaka.
The University of Rajshahi (RU) was founded in 1953 as the second university in East Bengal, after the University of Dhaka. It was established in response to the growing demand for higher education in the northern part of the province. RU's first vice-chancellor was Itrat Hossain Zuberi, the principal of Rajshahi College.
Initially, RU was housed in temporary locations, but in 1961, it moved to its permanent campus on the green premises of Motihar, which is very close to the mighty river Padma. The campus is spread over an area of 753 acres and is home to a variety of academic buildings, residential halls, and other facilities.
RU has grown steadily over the years and now offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in a wide range of disciplines, including arts, humanities, social sciences, business studies, law, science, and engineering. The university is also home to a number of research institutes and centers, which conduct cutting-edge research in a variety of fields.
