University of Banja Luka

The University of Banja Luka (UNIBL) is a prominent public university located in Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina. It's the second-oldest university in the country and the leading higher education institution in the Republic of Srpska entity.

While higher education in Banja Luka can be traced back to the 1950s with the establishment of individual faculties, UNIBL officially came into being on November 7, 1975. This marked a significant milestone, solidifying the city's position as a vital center for learning and intellectual exploration in the then-Socialist Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The fledgling university embraced a period of rapid expansion, establishing new faculties like Law, Economics, and Electrical Engineering alongside the existing institutions. The Bosnian War (1992-1995) cast a dark shadow on UNIBL, disrupting its operations and causing immense damage to its infrastructure. Despite the challenges, the university persevered, relocating faculties and continuing to offer classes with unwavering dedication.
