The State University of Goiás (UEG) is a public multicampus university in the State of Goiás, established by State Law No. 13,456 of April 16, 1999.

Under the terms of its Statute, approved by State Decree No. 9,593 of January 17, 2020, and its General Regulations, approved by its University Council, UEG is an institution dedicated to teaching, research, and extension activities for scientific and technological purposes. It is cultural and educational in nature and is public, tuition-free, and secular. UEG is an autonomous agency of the executive branch of the State of Goiás, with academic and scientific, administrative, financial, and asset-management autonomy, pursuant to Article 207 of the Constitution of the Federative Republic of Brazil, Article 161 of the Constitution of the State of Goiás, and State Law No. 18,971 of July 23, 2015. It is governed by its Statute, General Regulations, and supplementary rules.

UEG is headquartered in the municipality of Anápolis, Goiás, and its academic presence is organized across eight regions of the state through in-person campuses and university units (UnU), as well as distance education centers (EaD). This presence extends to every microregion of Goiás defined by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). As the only state public university in Goiás, UEG has a strategic role in expanding access to public higher education throughout the state’s interior, along with the conditions, processes, and outcomes associated with it.
