The history of Adolfo Ibáñez University (UAI) can be traced back to 1953, when the Valparaiso Business School (Escuela de Negocios de Valparaíso) was established. The business school was founded by the Adolfo Ibáñez Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting education and economic development in Chile.
The Valparaiso Business School was the first business school in Chile and Latin America. It quickly gained a reputation for its high-quality academic programs and its focus on preparing students for success in the business world.
In 1979, the Valparaiso Business School introduced the first MBA program in Chile. The MBA program was a major success, and it helped to establish UAI as a leading provider of business education in the region.
In 1988, after the educational reform brought about by the military government, Adolfo Ibáñez University was founded with the Valparaiso Business School as its central axis.
UAI has always been a pioneer in education. In 1996, the university became the first in Chile to offer a double degree program in business and engineering. In 2001, UAI launched the first schools of government and psychology in Chile. And in 2006, the university opened its first campus outside of Chile, in Miami, Florida.
