The Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso (PUCV) is a private university located in Valparaíso, Chile.

The history of the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso (PUCV) can be traced back to 1894, when the Law School was established as an independent college by the Sacred Heart Fathers. In 1928, the PUCV was founded, supported by the generous contribution of Isabel Caces de Brown.

The early years of the PUCV were marked by steady growth and development. The university opened new schools and faculties, and it quickly became one of the leading universities in Chile. In 1952, the PUCV established the History Institute, which has become one of the most prestigious history departments in the country.

During the 1960s and 1970s, the PUCV played an important role in the Chilean social and political movements of the time. The university was a center for intellectual debate and dissent, and it was home to many of the leading figures in the Chilean opposition to the Pinochet dictatorship.

After the Pinochet dictatorship ended in 1990, the PUCV continued to grow and develop. The university opened new campuses and research centers, and it expanded its international partnerships. Today, the PUCV is one of the leading universities in Chile and Latin America.
