Lanzhou University

Lanzhou University is a prestigious public university in Lanzhou, Gansu, China.

This esteemed public university's roots trace back to 1909, when its predecessor, the Gansu School of Law and Politics, was established. This marked the dawn of modern higher education in Gansu Province and played a pioneering role in the entire Northwest region. In 1928, the school underwent a transformation, becoming the Sun Yat-sen University of Lanzhou. By 1945, it had earned the designation of National Lanzhou University. Finally, after 1949, it adopted its current name – Lanzhou University. 

Throughout its history, Lanzhou University has consistently strived for excellence. It was designated as one of China's 14 key universities, a testament to its national significance.  A significant milestone occurred in 1932 with the founding of Lanzhou Medical College and its affiliated hospital, further enriching the university's academic offerings.  The quest for continued growth didn't stop there. In 2002, the Gansu Grassland Ecology Research Institute was incorporated, and in 2004, Lanzhou Medical College officially joined forces with Lanzhou University. These mergers significantly expanded the university's disciplinary scope, solidifying its position as a comprehensive institution.

The university's roots lie in a central Lanzhou location, where its oldest campus resides. As it flourished, a sprawling main campus was established in Yuzhong County. Recognizing the need for further expansion, a third campus, the One Belt and One Road campus, is currently under construction north of Lanzhou.
