Shanghai University of Electric Power

Shanghai University of Electric Power is a public university in Shanghai, China.

The year is 1951, and China's burgeoning electricity sector craves a skilled workforce. In response, this esteemed university takes its first steps as the "Shanghai Training School of Electric Power," a nascent institution dedicated to nurturing the next generation of electrical engineers. This marked the humble beginnings of a university that would become a prominent force in the field. Over the next few years, the school underwent a period of growth and evolution. In 1959, it was renamed the "Shanghai Power School," reflecting its expanding curriculum and focus. In 1960, it further solidified its position by absorbing the "Shanghai Amateur Power Institute," demonstrating its commitment to providing comprehensive electric power education. 

A pivotal moment arrived in 1985 with the adoption of its current name. No longer just a school, it was now a full-fledged university – a testament to its academic achievements and expanding range of programs. Throughout this period, the university benefited from a collaborative management structure, co-run by the central government and the Shanghai municipality. This joint effort highlighted the national significance of the university while ensuring strong local support.

The university's motto, consisting of four powerful characters, encapsulates its core values.
