University of Electronic Science and Technology of China

University of Electronic Science and Technology of China is a public university in Chengdu, Sichuan, China.
The roots of this prestigious university stretch back to 1956, born from the vision of then Premier Zhou Enlai. In that year, the electronics departments of three major universities were merged to create the Chengdu Institute of Radio Engineering (CIRE). This marked the dawn of a new era in Chinese electronic education. CIRE rapidly established itself as a leader in the field, becoming the first institute of higher learning dedicated to electronic information in the newly formed People's Republic of China. Recognition for its pioneering role came swiftly. In 1960, the Ministry of Education bestowed upon CIRE the prestigious title of a National Key Institute, solidifying its position as a crucial pillar for China's burgeoning electronics industry. The late 1980s witnessed a significant transformation. In 1988, CIRE underwent a metamorphosis, shedding its former name and embracing a new identity – the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC). This change reflected the university's expanding academic scope, encompassing not just radio engineering but a wider spectrum of electronic disciplines.
The 1990s ushered in a period of continued growth and national recognition. UESTC was included in the elite "State's Education Revival Project" (Project 211) in 1997, a testament to its commitment to academic excellence. This prestigious designation placed the university among the top 100 key universities in China. The turn of the millennium brought further advancements. In 2000, UESTC secured a coveted spot within the Ministry of Education's university system, officially becoming a national key university. This move signified a direct affiliation with the central government, solidifying its role as a national leader in technological education. UESTC's achievements didn't stop there. The year 2001 saw its inclusion in Project 985, a government initiative focused on cultivating a select group of research-intensive universities with the potential to become world-class institutions. This prestigious designation provided UESTC with significant resources to fuel groundbreaking research endeavors and propel its academic standing further. The university continued its expansion with the inauguration of the Qingshuihe Campus in 2007, providing additional space for its growing student body and research facilities.
The university's motto, "To seek facts and truth, to be noble and ambitious," encapsulates its core values. It emphasizes a rigorous pursuit of knowledge alongside fostering a spirit of ambition and nobility in its students. This motto translates into a strong emphasis on research and development, with the university consistently ranking at the forefront of scientific advancements. Looking forward, the university aspires to solidify its position as a global leader in science and technology. It actively participates in government initiatives like Project 211, Project 985, and the Double First-Class Construction, all designed to cultivate world-class universities in China. By nurturing a culture of innovation and academic excellence, the university strives to shape the future of technology and propel China's standing in the scientific arena.
