Czech Technical University in Prague is the oldest technical university in Europe.
The history of the Czech Technical University in Prague (CTU) dates back to 1707, when it was founded as the Institute of Engineering Education by Emperor Joseph I. The institute was originally a secondary school, but it was granted university status in 1806 and became known as the Prague Polytechnic.
The Prague Polytechnic was one of the first technical universities in Central Europe, and it played a leading role in the development of industry and technology in the Czech Republic. The university produced many notable engineers and scientists, including František Křižík, the inventor of the electric arc lamp, and Josef Božek, the inventor of the sugar refinery.
In 1863, the Prague Polytechnic was split into two separate universities: the Czech Technical University and the German Technical University. The Czech Technical University continued to grow and develop, and it became one of the leading technical universities in the world.
During World War II, the Czech Technical University was closed by the Nazi occupation regime. However, the university reopened after the war and continued to grow and develop. In 1990, the university was renamed the Czech Technical University in Prague.
Today, CTU is one of the largest and most prestigious technical universities in Europe.
