University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague

The University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague is the largest university specializing in chemistry in the Czech Republic.

Born from the industrial thirst of the 18th century, UCT Prague first sprouted as a chemistry course within Prague Polytechnic in 1807. This seed blossomed into a Department of Chemistry in 1849, and by the late 19th century, chemistry thrived at the University of Prague.

In 1920, Prague Polytechnic transformed, birthing the Faculty of Chemical and Technical Engineering within the new Czech Technical University. Pioneering chemist Professor Emil Votoček nurtured this academic haven. Independent wings took flight in 1952 as the Faculty of Inorganic Technology and the Faculty of Organic Technology merged, forming the Institute of Chemical Technology.

Finally, in 1952, the Institute blossomed into the University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague, a beacon of chemical education and research. In 1969, the Faculty of Chemical Technology solidified UCT Prague's crown as the Czech Republic's premier center for chemistry.
