Universidad Politécnica Salesiana operates as a major private Catholic educational institution. The university operates multiple campuses throughout Ecuador. The institution officially established itself through a National Congress of Ecuador decree which declared its existence on August 5, 1994. The university emerged as an educational institution during the late 20th century when its Dominican roots began in 1887. The university established its foundation through Salesian pedagogical methods which focused on the "preventive system" and youth empowerment. UPS has developed into a leading national educational institution which celebrates its 30th anniversary as a social transformation center.
