Jimma University
Jimma University (JU) is a public university located in Jimma, Ethiopia.
Ethiopia's quest for agricultural self-sufficiency took root in 1952 with the establishment of the Jimma Agricultural Technical School. Partnering with Oklahoma State University, this school nurtured skilled professionals to tackle regional agricultural challenges. Over the years, it blossomed into the Jimma Institute of Agriculture (JIA) in 1968, signifying a broader focus on agricultural education and research.
Recognizing the critical need for qualified healthcare professionals, Ethiopia saw the birth of the Jimma Institute of Health Sciences in 1983. This institute swiftly gained recognition for its high-quality medical education and impactful research, becoming a beacon of hope for improved healthcare in the region.
The year 1999 marked a pivotal moment in Jimma's academic journey. The JIA and the Institute of Health Sciences merged to form Jimma University, a vibrant hub of knowledge encompassing diverse fields like agriculture, medicine, education, social sciences, and natural sciences.
