University of Bayreuth

University of Bayreuth serves as a major public research university which operates from its main campus in Upper Franconia Bavarian territory. The university operates through its distinct campus system which creates a cooperative atmosphere that differs from the conventional German urban university system. The university has built its reputation through its international educational programs which support its mission to combine academic freedom with social and cultural obligations according to its "Order and Brightness" (Ordo et Claritas) mission. The institution establishes itself as a sustainable organization through its certified "green campus" operations which maintain ecological equilibrium while advancing scientific research.

The establishment of the university started in the early 1970s when the Bavarian Landtag passed a resolution to create a new state university in Bayreuth. The institution received its official founding date of January 1 1972 and began research and teaching activities during the winter of 1975. The selected campus location functioned as a former military training site which permitted quick construction of new buildings including the first "Natural Sciences Multipurpose Building" and additional specialized research facilities. The university reached important achievements throughout the years which included the 1981 founding of Iwalewahaus Africa Centre and the establishment of a large Ecological-Botanical Garden which serves as an essential resource for local people and scientists worldwide.
