University of Mannheim

University of Mannheim stands as a distinguished public research institution based in the center of Mannheim Germany. The university which people commonly know as the "Harvard of Germany" achieved academic excellence through its complete dedication to economic and social science research. The university's main campus sits inside Mannheim Palace which ranks among the largest Baroque palaces found throughout Europe. The university traces its foundation back to the Palatine Academy of Sciences which Elector Carl Theodor established in 1763. The university established its current educational path through the creation of a municipal commercial college which began in 1907 to train future business executives. The college experienced a severe period of darkness during 1933 when the National Socialist government shut down the institution which resulted in the persecution and disappearance of numerous Jewish faculty members. The Mannheim Palace restoration process reached completion in 1946 when the institution reopened as a state college specializing in business and economics education. The university achieved official recognition as a university on July 4 1967 which initiated its journey to become a top academic institution in Europe.
